Are you a Great Canadian?

“The spirit of the Lord is upon me
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.

God has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To let the oppressed go free
and proclaim the year of the Lord's favour…”

(Isaiah – an ancient prophet who knew what it means to live your faith in action!)

Was Isaiah thinking about a Great Canadian? Read about Canada's number one pick – Tommy Douglas – a guy who put his faith into action in defending the cause of the oppressed (exploited workers) freeing the prisoners (speaking out against Japanese internment during WWII) and healing to the nation (through socialized medicine). Watch out for the little guy with the big idea – Tommy Douglas: a Christian who chose to live his faith-in-action through social justice and social change.

Inspired by the ‘social gospel' (that is, Jesus' message to defend the cause of the poor and needy), he started out speaking in church basements in Saskatchewan. He changed the country, and has just been acclaimed ‘The Greatest Canadian'.
