Tag Games

Everybody's It!

This is a great re-energizer game to play during a break from lots of sitting still stuff or brain stuff.

Players scatter in the playing area (there should be some definite boundaries for this one! It's hard to play outside unless you are in a fenced in area) On the word "Go", everyone tries to tag everyone else. If you are touched anywhere you must sit down right away. If two people touch each other simultaneously, they both sit down. Play continues until only two people are still standing. This one is over very quickly, but can be played again and again.

There is a strong temptation to cheat in this game (yes, even adults!) -- so after giving the instructions, encourage the players to play fairly and honestly.

Fox and Squirrel Tag

Everyone spreads out and forms pairs by linking arms with another person (you won't stay paired for long, so don't worry if you're not with your best buddy). Two people don't link up, one is the fox ("it") and the other person is the squirrel.

In this game of tag, only one person is being chased at any one time (the squirrel). If fox tags the squirrel, they merely switch; fox becomes the squirrel (and quickly runs the other way!). You are "safe" as long as you have one arm linked with one other person. The squirrel can become safe by linking up with a pair and "bumping off" the extra person from the other side of the pair. That person becomes the squirrel and the chase continues. Fox and squirrel cannot run between two linked people when chasing one another. This is a very fast paced game and is good to play in a wide open area with a large number of people (20 plus).
