Romero House -
Toronto Refugee Community Non-Profit Homes and Services. Romero House
is community consisting of four houses and neighbourhood centre in an
area north of High Park and south of the "Junction" in the west end of Toronto.
The fundamental practice of Romero House is the community-based vision of accompaniment
- living together as good neighbours. This vision is inspired by the practice
Archbishop Romero introduced in Central America known as acompanamiento, meaning, "stand
by the people".
L'Arche
-
L'Arche is an international network of faith-based communities creating homes
and day programs with people who have developmental disabilities. It was founded
in 1964 when Canadian Jean Vanier welcomed two men with disabilities into his
home in the town of Trosly , France, northeast of Paris . T oday, there are
over 120 L'Arche communities, on six continents, in 30 countries around the
world.
Many alumni of Ask & Imagine encountered L'Arche through their
Faith-In-Action experience on the program, and have gone on to spend
some time as an assistant in a L'Arche community. Find out more about
spending a summer, 6 months or a year in a community near you, or
in another country. Assistants receive room & board and a small
salary.
Sanctuary -
For most people on the street, their experiences of community have
been dysfunctional at best. Rather than simply duplicating social
services, Sanctuary provides a unique, healthy community a
safe place. We say: "If you're willing to share your life with us,
we'll share ours with you. We'll encourage you when you mess up,
help you find direction when you're not sure which way to go, hold
you when you're hurting, and help you discover, strengthen and focus
your gifts and abilities. We're here for the long haul." It's not
uncommon for people in the Sanctuary community to tell us, "You're
the closest thing that I have to family."
